200 Feet Radial Road Chennai 2026 Update

The road begins at GST Road in Pallavaram and ends at Rajiv Gandhi Salai, or OMR, in Thoraipakkam. It passes through the Pallavaram, Kovilambakkam, Keelkattalai, Echangadu and Pallikaranai belt. Echangadu Junction links the road with Medavakkam Main Road. Pallikaranai Junction gives access towards Velachery and Taramani. This route joins the eastern and western parts of South Chennai.

The main road remains in use across the full route. The key gaps are on the service roads and local entry points. A recent report found that several service lanes were still unlaid or blocked. Parked cabs, private cars, shops and food stalls use these spaces. Wrong-side driving was also reported on busy sections. These problems reduce the benefit of the wide road during office and evening hours.

Traffic is often heavy near Pallavaram, Keelkattalai and Kamakshi Hospital. Pallikaranai and the OMR junction also face delays. Office cabs, airport cars, school buses and local vehicles use the same road. The morning and evening rush can be slow. Still, this route can save time on many east-to-west trips across South Chennai.

No metro line runs along the full length of 200 Feet Radial Road. However, its OMR end will gain access through Chennai Metro Phase II Corridor 3. Thoraipakkam, Okkiyampet and Karapakkam are among the planned stations in this belt. Chennai Metro reported in March 2026 that work across Corridors 3, 4 and 5 was moving ahead. The full Phase II project has an end-2028 completion target.

The Pallavaram end of the road joins GST Road close to Chennai International Airport. This helps people travelling from OMR, Pallikaranai, Kovilambakkam and nearby areas. Travel time depends on traffic near Pallavaram and the selected airport terminal. A 2025 market report said about 2,500 homes were under construction. It also said large township projects could add more than 4,000 homes by 2030. The same report estimated that the wider corridor may gain 12 to 13 million sq. ft. of commercial space.

Buyers should not select a project only because it is close to the main road. They must check the service lane, site entrance and internal road. Drainage, traffic noise and the final road to the project also matter.

Drainage remains a concern on some parts of the road. Pallavaram Periya Eri is the largest lake along this route. In June 2026, it was still affected by sewage, waste, water hyacinth and encroachments. Some inlet and outlet channels have also become narrow. Prestige Falcon City Chennai is planned on Medavakkam–Sholinganallur Road, near Perumbakkam and Global Hospital. The project is not located directly on 200 Feet Radial Road. The eastern side leads towards Pallikaranai, Thoraipakkam and OMR.

Yet the road also has clear gaps in service lanes, parking control, drainage and lake care. A good project near this route should have a safe entrance, a proper approach road and strong stormwater planning.

200 Feet Radial Road will remain a key link in South Chennai. Metro access near the OMR end may improve public transport. New offices and housing projects will also bring more users. Better service roads, parking rules, drainage and lake restoration are still needed.
