Chennai Metro Phase 2 Corridor 5 is under construction along this part of South Chennai.
The complete corridor is planned over 47 km from Madhavaram Milk Colony to
Sholinganallur. The full Phase 2 network covers 118.9 km and has 128 planned stations.
Road and drainage work is also taking place around Perumbakkam and ELCOT. A ₹42 crore
flood-control project includes a 1.7 km twin-cell culvert and a new high-level bridge to move
rainwater towards Buckingham Canal. This work is planned to reduce flooding around
Perumbakkam and nearby OMR areas.
A recent 2026 report also noted that some road-widening work near Medavakkam Main
Road remains incomplete. This can cause traffic delays during peak hours. Therefore,
buyers should check the actual route during morning and evening office timings.
