South Chennai
South Chennai is the broad southern part of Chennai. It includes Adyar, Guindy, Velachery, Pallikaranai, Medavakkam, OMR, ECR, Sholinganallur, Pallavaram and Tambaram. The region is known for IT parks, Chennai Airport, Metro and rail links, top schools, hospitals, beaches and homes across different price ranges.
South Chennai is also one of the city’s main residential and job markets in 2026. OMR supports a large IT sector, while GST Road connects the airport, railway stations and southern suburbs. Medavakkam and Perumbakkam offer many new apartment choices near OMR. Prestige Falcon City Chennai is also planned in Medavakkam on Medavakkam–Sholinganallur Road.

Latest Updates in South Chennai – 2026
Chennai Metro Phase 2 is the biggest transport project changing South Chennai. The full network covers 118.9 km and has 128 planned stations. Corridor 3 runs for 45.8 km from Madhavaram to SIPCOT. Corridor 5 runs for 47 km from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. CMRL has proposed completing the full Phase 2 network by the end of 2028.
Metro work is active around Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur and other parts of the OMR belt. Each section will open only after construction, testing and safety approval are complete.
Medavakkam, Perumbakkam, Sholinganallur, Pallikaranai and Tambaram remain important housing markets in 2026. Buyers prefer these areas due to their road access, IT jobs, schools and new apartment supply.
